    • Stonebrae Classic back on the Web.com Tour schedule for 2014

HAYWARD, Calif. -- After a one-year hiatus for new clubhouse construction, the Stonebrae Classic will return to the Web.com Tour schedule beginning this summer, it was announced Friday by the PGA TOUR.

The Stonebrae Classic will be played July 28–Aug. 3 at the David McLay Kidd-designed TPC Stonebrae, which opened in 2007 and enjoys a panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay Area from its southeastern Bay location. Kidd also designed renowned Bandon Dunes on the Oregon coast and the Castle Course at St. Andrews in Scotland.

TPC Stonebrae played host to the Web.com Tour in 2009 through 2012. Its first four winners were Michael Sim, Kevin Chappell, Daniel Chopra and Alex Aragon, a graduate of nearby Stanford University in 2012. No tournament was played in 2013 to make way for construction of the 32,000-square-foot clubhouse, which is set to officially open in June.  The clubhouse will include casual dining options, a spacious banquet room, 25-meter lap pool, spa, expansive fitness facility, championship tennis courts and bocce courts, among other amenities.

“We are delighted to have the Stonebrae Classic back on the calendar and to add one more tournament to our schedule,” said Web.com Tour president Bill Calfee. “The Web.com Tour staged four terrific events at TPC Stonebrae from 2009-2012. TPC Stonebrae provides a first-rate golf course and will be complemented by a spectacular new clubhouse that is currently in full construction mode. Web.com Tour players and Bay Area golf fans have a lot to look forward to when we return to TPC Stonebrae this summer.”

“We are very excited about the return of the Web.com Tour and the Stonebrae Classic to our facility in 2014,” said TPC Stonebrae general manager Eric Jacobsen.  “Our new summer date will be perfect for both weather and remarkable golf course conditions. Players who have competed here in the past will experience markedly different playing conditions. We look forward to showcasing our new clubhouse and to hosting a wonderful golf tournament. I would like to thank our entire membership in advance for their support of the Stonebrae Classic.”

The Stonebrae Classic will feature a field of 156 players competing over 72 holes of stroke play. TPC Stonebrae played 7,100 yards and to a par of 70 in 2012. The 2014 purse will be $600,000, with the champion taking home $108,000.

A Pro-Am will be played at TPC Stonebrae on Wednesday, July 30.

Tournament proceeds will be earmarked for The First Tee of Oakland as well as other Bay Area charities who participate in the tournament’s volunteer program.

Today’s announcement came in conjunction with the Web.com Tour’s release of its 2014 schedule, which features 25 events to be played in 15 states and six countries outside the United States.

TPC Stonebrae is a private, gated community which has a master plan for 600 new homes in five distinct villages.

Among the newcomers to the Web.com Tour in 2014 are Max Homa and Michael Kim, members of the powerful University of California-Berkeley golf team the last few years.
