RALEIGH, N.C.-- Carter Jenkins, a Leesville Road High School sophomore, took the win at The Rex Hospital Open Junior Invitational, presented by the Tarheel Golf Foundation on Sunday, June 5, at TPC Wakefield Plantation. The win gives Jenkins an unrestricted sponsor's exemption to compete in the Rex Hospital Open tournament field this week.
"We look forward to watching Jenkins compete this week," said Carson Gilbert, Rex Hospital Open tournament director. "To have the opportunity to play against some of the biggest names in golf at such a young age is quite an achievement. We wish Jenkins and the rest of the field the best of luck in this year's tournament."
More than 50 teens from across the state competed in the annual Junior Invitational for their chance to compete in the professional tournament. Jenkins' 4-under finish edged out last year's Junior Invitational winner and fellow school teammate, Grayson Murray. Murray made history at last year's Rex Hospital Open by becoming the second-youngest player to make the cut at a Nationwide Tour event.
