Potter getting best of Mickelson, Watson

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. -- Ted Potter admitted on Wednesday that he wasn't exactly used to the kind of crowds that would be following him during the first two rounds of The Greenbrier Classic.

Potter knew most of the fans wouldn't be there to see the start of his title defense, either. Not when his playing partners were two of the most popular players in the game -- Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson.

"I'm basically going to focus on what I'm doing and not pay attention to what's going on around me," Potter said.

So far that strategy is working well. Potter has made four birdies and one double bogey in his first 11 holes and is 2 under, leading Watson by two and Mickelson by three.

Mickelson, who has yet to break 70 or make the cut in two previous appearances at The Greenbrier Classic, has made four bogeys and three birdies. Watson, who has been at the resort with his family since last Wednesday, has two birdies and two bogeys in his last five holes.
