CROMWELL, Conn. -- Webb Simpson saved his best for last, shooting a final-round 65 to grab the clubhouse lead at 9 under at the Travelers Championship.
Good, but not good enough. At least in Simpson's eyes.
"I'm itching to get to my family, so I'm going to head to the airport," he said. "I'll watch the scores, obviously, but I don't think it's going to be good enough."
As of 4 p.m., Bubba Watson and Ken Duke were at 11 under and several players were at 10 under.
In other words, TPC River Highlands is playing tough, but not that tough.
"It would shock me to see all them come back," Simpson said. "With 15, 17, 18 playing straight downwind, you know, it would surprise me.”
Case in point: The 15th and 18th holes are currently the second and third easiest holes on the golf course.
As for Simpson, it was his second 65 of the week and his best score since a 65 in the third round at the RBC Heritage, where he eventually lost in a playoff to Graeme McDowell.
