Can Dustin continue FedExCup streak?

By Mike McAllister, PGATOUR.COM

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- Only one player in the 125-man field at The Barclays has won FedExCup Playoffs events in each of the previous two years.

Yes, Dustin Johnson likes this time of year. Likes it a lot.

"I play well at this time of the year usually," Johnson said. "So I enjoy the FedExCup. I like the Playoffs."

Two years ago, Johnson won the BMW Championship en route to finishing fifth overall in points. Last year, Johnson won the weather-shortened Barclays in Plainfield, N.J., en route to a fourth-place finish. That's two of his six career PGA TOUR wins coming in the Playoffs.

This year, Johnson ranks 24th in points but will have two courses – this week’s Bethpage State Park Black Course, and Crooked Stick for the BMW Championship – in which to flex his muscles. Each course exceeds 7,400 yards in length and Johnson ranks seventh in driving distance.

Although he's yet to seal the deal with a FedExCup title and the $10 million bonus, he's certainly put himself in position going into the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola. Those Playoffs wins allowed him to control his own fate at East Lake the last two years.

"You want to make it to the TOUR Championship and obviously win the FedExCup," Johnson said. "That's a nice check in the pocket. So that's how I get up for it.

"You know, it's great, and I don't know how you couldn't (get fired up) when you're playing for that kind of cheese."
