A former president of the Golf Writers Association of America, Dorman is the recipient of numerous awards for his coverage of the sport from both the Golf Writers Association of America and the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE).
He covered golf and the NFL from 1977 to 1993 at the Palm Beach Post, Miami Herald and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and also was the golf writer at the National Sports Daily and a contributing editor to Golf Digest and Golf World magazines. In 1993 Dorman began the first of two four-year stints as the golf correspondent for the New York Times. From 1997-2007 he was Senior Vice President of Global Press and Public Relations at Callaway Golf Company. He returned to the New York Times to cover golf from 2007-11.
