PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Golf fans throughout the world will once again have access to extensive coverage of THE PLAYERS Championship on air, on radio and on line. Whether it is the 22 hours of live, limited-interruption telecasts on Golf Channel and NBC Sports, four-round coverage of LIVE@ THE PLAYERS streaming on PGATOUR.COM, or wall-to-wall radio coverage on SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio, fans have a variety of ways to follow the action and excitement from THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. This week's coverage includes:
Once again, NBC Sports and Golf Channel will provide a total of 22 hours of live coverage in high definition, with limited commercial interruption. Golf Channel will air six hours of live golf on Thursday and Friday (1-7 p.m. ET) and NBC Sports will present five hours of coverage on Saturday and Sunday (2-7 p.m. ET). Each day will include limited commercial interruptions, thanks to the generous support of THE PLAYERS' Proud Partner PwC.
In addition to the live coverage, Golf Channel will air primetime replays of competition on Thursday and Friday from 9 p.m.--12 a.m. ET. Golf Channel also has an extensive amount of ancillary programming scheduled around THE PLAYERS, including more than 90 hours of "Live From THE PLAYERS" Monday-Sunday, a series of "PGA TOUR Classic" episodes highlighting past PLAYERS Championships, expanded episodes of "Morning Drive," including a special weekend edition on Saturday and Sunday, as well as "The Golf Fix" being broadcast live from TPC Sawgrass during tournament week. Additionally, NBC will air a special "Golf Central Live PreGame" show at 1:30 p.m. ET leading into the network's third and final round coverage on Saturday and Sunday.
In 2011, South Korea's K.J. Choi became the first Asian player to win THE PLAYERS and this year will lead a contingent of 51 international players at TPC Sawgrass. International players have won four consecutive PLAYERS titles (Spain's Sergio Garcia in 2008; Sweden's Henrik Stenson in 2009; South Africa's Tim Clark in 2010; and Choi). International coverage of THE PLAYERS remains strong; in 2012, THE PLAYERS will be broadcast to nearly 600 million households throughout 224 territories in 31 languages.
Sky Sports (United Kingdom and Ireland) and NHK (Japan) will be on site at THE PLAYERS to produce telecasts back to their respective countries. In addition, Viasat (Denmark) and RDS (French Canada) will provide live commentary from THE PLAYERS back to their respective channels.
Of the more than 84 channels broadcasting the tournament, 28 will broadcast THE PLAYERS in HD, including Sky Sports (UK); Sky Sport (Germany); Fox Sports (Australia); SBS (Korea); and ESPN (Latin America). New broadcast partners in 2012 include Sky Sports (Italy); Poverkhnost (Ukraine) and Skynet Sports (Myanmar).
PGATOUR.COM, the web's No. 1 golf site, will provide comprehensive editorial, statistical and video coverage of THE PLAYERS. The highly popular LIVE@ THE PLAYERS will bring four-round coverage featuring the famed par-3 17th island hole, as well as bonus coverage from the par-3 13th hole, player interviews and features from TPC Sawgrass.
LIVE@, now in its 13th year at THE PLAYERS and a pioneer in delivering live golf to audiences on the Internet, will provide live play-by-play coverage on Thursday and Friday beginning at 9 a.m. ET and continuing until 7 p.m. or the conclusion of play. On Saturday and Sunday, coverage will begin at 12 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. or the conclusion of play. This year coverage will again be available on PGATOUR.COM, Yahoo! Sports, the PGA TOUR iPhone App, as well as the iPad and Android App for the first time.
Extensive editorial coverage begins Monday and will include tournament analysis, player features, interviews and updates, including PGATOUR.COM's exclusive real-time scoring and Shot Tracker (graphical scoring application). Fans can also stay connected to THE PLAYERS wherever they are via PGATOUR.COM's mobile sites. The PGA TOUR will also have coverage on social media platforms through its official presences on Facebook and Twitter, allowing fans to connect and share the event with other fans. In addition, the official PGA TOUR sites in China, Japan and South Korea will help fans from across the globe stay connected to THE PLAYERS.
SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio
Now in its eighth season, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio (Sirius 208, XM 93) will provide more than 50 hours of exclusive play-by-play coverage, talk programming, preview/review shows and media-center interviews from TPC Sawgrass this year.
Coverage of THE PLAYERS begins today from 3-5 p.m. ET with a special World Golf Hall of Fame Induction preview, followed by THE PLAYERS preview shows on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-5 p.m.
THE PLAYERS Live play-by-play coverage will be available 12-7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, while an expanded 30-minute THE PLAYERS Replay show will air Thursday through Sunday beginning at 7 p.m. In addition, one-hour THE PLAYERS preview shows will air Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. for the first time this year.
SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio's on-air team will be led this year by host Earl Forcey and analyst Mark Carnevale. Reporting on the course will be Fred Albers, John Maginnes and Doug Bell. Matt Adams will also contribute by filling in as host, conducting player interviews and anchoring the preview shows. In addition, 1988 PLAYERS Champion Mark McCumber, a resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and 10-time PGA TOUR winner, will offer his analysis and unique perspective as a past champion at TPC Sawgrass throughout the week.
Adams will also host his "Fairways of Life" show live from the World Golf Hall of Fame on Tuesday, and will broadcast from TPC Sawgrass Wednesday through Friday, from 7-9 a.m. ET. John Maginnes will host his "Maginnes on Tap" weekday program from TPC Sawgrass on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. as well.
