KAPALUA, Maui -- Tournament officials announced that the "Aloha Kick-Off" opening ceremonies will signify the beginning of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and the 2012 PGA TOUR season on Friday, Jan. 6, prior to the beginning of the tournament's opening round at The Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort.

Officials estimate that the ceremony will begin at 9:30 am (or approximately 45 minutes prior to the first tee time) just before the annual winners-only event begins. It will feature a Hawaiian Blessing by The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua's cultural advisor Clifford Naeole. Following the blessing, performers from the Polynesian Cultural Center's "Ha-Breath of Life" will do a special presentation to kick off the professional competition with Hawaii's island spirit. Spectators are urged to arrive early on Friday and experience a truly special opening ceremony.

"This Breath of Life presentation will showcase an ancient tale of a Hawaiian boy who goes through a journey that embodies the Hawaiian spirit. It will be a touching performance that allows spectators and viewers to truly breathe in Hawaii as we kick off the PGA TOUR season at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions," said Tournament Director Nancy Cross.

The Polynesian CulturalCenter features 42 lush, beautifully landscaped acres where you can immerse yourself in the lifestyles, entertainment, and hospitality of seven island villages: Fiji, Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga, New Zealand, and Easter Island. Each village showcases its centuries-old heritage, offering a deeper understanding of each nation's culture with friendly Pacific natives and fun, interactive activities. And don't miss the elaborate feast at Hawaii's Ali'i Luau. Complete with fresh flower leis for guests, the Luau has earned the prestigious Kahili Award for preserving Hawaiian culture and hospitality.
