Champions Tour renews multiple title sponsor agreements

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The Champions Tour announced today it has renewed agreements with seven existing tournaments. This news comes on the heels of a very successful season where the Tour crowned its 1,000th winner at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open and introduced three new events to the schedule in Atlanta, Chicago and Calgary.

The seven existing title sponsors to renew their agreements with the Champions Tour are:

ACE Group Classic. A title sponsor since 1999, ACE Group recently extended their title sponsor agreement of the Champions Tour event at the TwinEagles Club (Talon Course) in Naples, Florida through 2017.

Allianz Championship. A title sponsor since 2001, Allianz recently extended their title sponsor agreement of the Champions Tour event at the Old Course at Broken Sound Club in Boca Raton, Florida through 2017.

Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. A title sponsor since 2003, Constellation recently extended their partnership as title sponsor of this major championship through 2017. Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania hosted the event the past two years and will do so again in 2014.

Boeing Classic. A title sponsor since 2005, Boeing recently extended their title sponsor agreement of the Champions Tour event at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge in Seattle, Washington through 2016.

Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. A title sponsor since 2009, Mitsubishi Electric recently extended their title sponsor agreement of the Champions Tour season-opening event at Hualalai Golf Course on the Big Island in Hawaii through 2016. Mitsubishi Electric also continues their relationship with the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour as official provider of Diamond Vision scoreboards.

Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. A title sponsor since 2011, Nature Valley recently extended their partnership as title sponsor of the Champions Tour event at Pebble Beach Golf Links and as an Official Marketing Partner through 2016. Their partnership with The First Tee allows them to positively impact the lives of many young people.

Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic presented by C Spire. The tournament, which has been contested since 2010, recently announced a partnership with C Spire Wireless to extend the tournament agreement of the Champions Tour event at Fallen Oak in Biloxi, Mississippi through 2016.

“Allianz has enjoyed a great partnership with the Champions Tour for more than a dozen years,” said Nancy Jones, Chief Marketing Officer for Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, whose company sponsors the Allianz Championship. “We continue to see terrific value in helping us build our brand, support local charities and strengthening relationships with our clients. We are looking forward to many more successful events.”

Since it began in 1980, the Champions Tour has visited eight different countries, 38 states and 191 different cities, including San Antonio, Texas, which has hosted a Champions Tour event a record 29 consecutive years. AT&T, the title sponsor in San Antonio, along with Toshiba Corporation, which sponsors the Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, Calif., are the current longest-running title sponsors on Tour.

Each Champions Tour event is televised nationally in the United States on Golf Channel, reaching 84 million homes. Three of the five major championships have network coverage on the weekend. With 23 international players from 15 different countries, the Tour also has global appeal, not only to the galleries attending tournaments but to a television audience of 115 million households in 185 countries and territories.

“The renewals we’re announcing today demonstrate that the Champions Tour continues to deliver the kind of value our sponsors expect,” said Champions Tour President Mike Stevens. “Our sponsors are able to use this platform as a means to grow their business and their brand. Also, the feedback we receive from our sponsors and fans regarding their interaction with our players is extremely positive and it is what makes the Champions Tour unique.”

Twelve World Golf Hall of Fame members actively compete on the Champions Tour, as do several ‘new’ players, who turn 50 each and every year. The 2013 rookie class included such players as Rocco Mediate, Steve Elkington, Colin Montgomerie and Vijay Singh. In 2014, the Tour will welcome major champions Davis Love III and Lee Janzen, along with Jeff Maggert, Stephen Ames, Scott Verplank and Woody Austin just to name a few.

“The players out here now, while still competitive, understand that the game is bigger than any one player or any given set of players,” said World Golf Hall of Fame member Hale Irwin, the all-time Champions Tour record-holder with 45 victories. “We recognize the role we play in creating a memorable experience for our sponsors, their guests and fans. We appreciate our title sponsors and are thrilled at the number of recent renewals.”

As the Champions Tour continues to grow, charitable giving remains a high priority with each tournament. Since the Champions Tour was established in 1980, almost every Champions Tour event has also made contributions within their respective communities, allowing the PGA TOUR to approach the $2 billion mark in charitable giving.
