SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The 2011 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf will kick off a week of exciting action with a special thank you to the fans, free admission on Monday, April 18, and Tuesday, April 19 compliments of Liberty Mutual for the Demaret Division competition, tournament officials today announced. The Demaret Division features 40 of golf's greatest champions over the age of 70 competing in a 36-hole, best-ball team competition.
The Demaret Division is the opening act of the 34th annual Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, which returns to the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa, April 18-24. Competition in the 54-hole Legends Division, which offers official money and valuable Charles Schwab Cup points, and 36-hole Raphael Division begins Friday, April 22.
"We're thrilled to offer complimentary admission to our fans for the Demaret Division competition, courtesy of Liberty Mutual," said Executive Director Joe Rotellini. "A number of the game's great champions will be competing here in Savannah on Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 19, many of whom helped establish the Champions Tour, and we couldn't think of a better way to thank our fans than give them the opportunity to come out free of charge."
Highlighting the 20 team Demaret Division field are two-time defending champions and World Golf Hall of Fame members Gary Player and Bob Charles. The duo successfully defended their title in 2010 with a record 36-hole total of 19-under-par 125. Joining Player and Charles will be the team of Don Bies and Tom Shaw, who finished two-shots off the winning pace in 2010. Crowd favorite Lee Trevino is also scheduled to compete, once again partnering with Mike Hill. The pair won the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf in 1991, 1992, 1995 and 1996. The 40 players in the Demaret Division competition have combined for 344 PGA TOUR victories, including 30 major championships, and 227 Champions Tour titles.
The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf will be televised by the Golf Channel and CBS. Golf Channel will provide live coverage on Friday from 12:30-2:30 p.m. ET while CBS will televise the weekend's play live from 1-3 p.m. ET on both Saturday and Sunday.
Daily tickets for Wednesday-Sunday are on sale now with prices starting at $15 (The price of single day tickets increases to $25 at the gate).
