World Golf Hall of Famer Nick Price and Masters Champion Larry Mize Headline the Talented Field to Compete at Kapolei Golf Club
HONOLULU (August 15, 2013) - Pacific Links Hawaii is pleased to announce that Hall of Famer Nick Price and Masters Champion Larry Mize have officially committed to lead the talented field of golfers competing at the $1.8 million full-field, Pacific Links Hawaii Championship at Kapolei Golf Club, this Sept. 16 to 22.
Mize, winner of four PGA Tour events, is renowned for one of golf's most dramatic hole-outs - the sudden death chip that won him the green jacket at the 1987 Masters. In 2013, Mize has cracked the top ten at the Allianz Championship and at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf. He shot 65 in the final round to tie for 6th at the inaugural Pacific Links Hawaii Championship in 2012.
Price, a two-time PGA Tour Champion and PGA Player of the Year, has won 18 PGA Tour events and 25 international events. In 2009, he won his first Champions Tour event at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am. Raised in Zimbabwe, Price is the Captain of the 2013 Presidents Cup International Team.
Mize and Price join a world-class field of Champions Tour professionals competing for the $270,000 winner's purse. Expected contenders include defending champion Willie Wood; 2013 Champions Tour money leaders Kenny Perry, Bernhard Langer, and David Frost; the winningest player in the Champions Tour history, Hale Irwin; 16-time PGA Tour winner Mark O'Meara; former U.S. Open Champion Corey Pavin; ten-time Champions Tour winner and World Golf Hall of fame inductee Tom Kite; and Champions Tour rookies Rocco Mediate and Steve Elkington.
Proceeds from the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship benefit the Pacific Links Hawaii Foundation, a non-profit formed to cultivate and sustain programs aiding Hawai'i's ecosystem, keiki and culture. In 2012, the Pacific Links Hawaii Foundation gifted a total of $100,000 to Hawaii non-profits Ka'ala Farm, Kapolei Community Development Fund, Malama Learning Center, University of Hawaii West Oahu and Kupu. About The Champions Tour
Collectively, the Champions Tour has the most recognizable and accomplished players in the game with many of its 32 members of the World Golf Hall of Fame competing regularly in its events and numerous other major championship winners among its members. The Champions Tour is a membership organization of professional golfers age 50 and older. Conceived in 1980 as the Senior PGA Tour, it started with just four events and purses totaling $475,000. Points earned in 26 official Charles Schwab Cup events in 2013 will determine the Charles Schwab Cup champion, the season-long competition designed to recognize the Champions Tour's leading player. The Champions Tour's primary purpose is to provide financial opportunities for its players, entertain and inspire its fans, deliver substantial value to its partners, create outlets for volunteers to give back, protect the integrity of the game and generate significant charitable and economic impact in communities in which it plays. In 2012, tournaments on all five Tours (PGA TOUR, Champions Tour, www.Web.com Tour, PGA TOUR Latinoamerica, PGA TOUR Canada) generated more than $130 million for local charitable organizations, bringing the TOUR's all-time total of charitable contributions to more than $1.85 billion. The Commissioner of the PGA TOUR is Tim Finchem. Mike Stevens is President of the Champions Tour.
