Biloxi, Miss. (Feb. 14) - Volunteer applications are now available for the inaugural Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic to be held April 28-May 2 at the exclusive Fallen Oak just north of Biloxi, Miss. More than 800 volunteers are needed to work on approximately 20 committees, including marshals, admissions, Golf Channel liaison, leaderboards, Pro-Am registration and transportation. Interested volunteers should visit www.mississippigulfresortclassic.com to apply. A full description of committee responsibilities is provided. The MGRC is one of 26 official events on the Champions Tour for 2010, and favorites Hal Sutton, Loren Roberts, Bernhard Langer, Tom Kite, Hale Irwin, Jay Haas, Fuzzy Zoeller and Fred Funk are expected to compete for the $1.6 million purse and a $240,000 winner's share. The tournament will be broadcast for 17 1/2 hours by the Golf Channel and all charitable dollars raised will benefit Habitat for Humanity of the Gulf Coast. "We are proud that our community has come together to make this happen," said Anthony Topazi, chairman of the MGRC Foundation, Inc. "As we continue to rebuild our lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (2005), this tournament will showcase our region as a leading destination for golf, fishing and resort amenities. It deserves everyone's support." Fallen Oak is the exclusive home course for the guests of the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino. The Tom Fazio-designed course, which was opened in 2006, has earned 12 national honors and is ranked the second best gaming resort course in the country.
