Defending Champion Roberts with Competitors Sluman and Watson Represent 30 Combined Wins on PGA TOUR and Champions Tour AUGUST 14, 2008 - Loren Roberts, Jeff Sluman and Denis Watson have all committed to play in the 2008 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship, October 7 - 12, at Baltimore Country Club at Five Farms in Timonium, MD. "We are thrilled to have Loren Roberts back in Baltimore to defend his title as last year's champion of the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship," said Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship Executive Director Steve Schoenfeld. "Jeff Sluman and Denis Watson will provide some strong competition in the final major championship of the season as they both have a proud history of winning on the PGA TOUR and have recently posted big wins on the Champions Tour." Loren Roberts was victorious eight times on the PGA TOUR including the 1999 GTE Byron Nelson Classic, 2000 Greater Milwaukee Open and 2002 Valero Texas Open. Roberts also claims eight victories on the Champions Tour including the 2007 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship and this year's Commerce Bank Championship. Roberts joined the PGA TOUR in 1981 and earned the nickname "Boss of the Moss" for his putting ability. He is a native of San Luis Obispo, California and was induced into the Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. Roberts joined the Champions Tour in 2005. Jeff Sluman claimed his first win on the Champions Tour this year when he won the Bank of America Championship near Boston in dramatic fashion when he birdied three of the last four holes to defeat Loren Roberts by two strokes. Sluman holds six championships on the PGA TOUR including the 1988 PGA Championship, 1999 Sony Open in Hawaii, and the 2002 Greater Milwaukee Open. Sluman joined the Champions Tour in 2007 and also served as a Captain's Assistant to Jack Nicklaus on the winning United States team at The Presidents Cup matches in Royal Montreal in Canada. Denis Watson enjoyed a standout debut season on the Champions Tour in 2007 and was named Rookie of the Year by his fellow Champions Tour players. The highlight of Watson's 2007 season was his win at the Senior PGA Championship at Kiawah Island, South Carolina. He also won the 2007 Boeing Classic and finished the season fourth on the money list with $1,636,123 in season earnings. In just his second year on the Champions Tour, Watson has won the 2008 AT&T Champions Classic and the 2008 FedEx Kinko's Classic. In addition to his standout career on the Champions Tour, Watson also holds three victories on the PGA TOUR. Watson twice represented South Africa in the World Series of Golf and was named Rhodesian Sportsman of the Year in 1975. Players in the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship will be competing for their share of the $2.6 million purse, which equals the largest purse on the Champions Tour this season. As the last of the Champions Tour majors, with $390,000 going to the winner, the double Charles Schwab Cup points awarded to the top-10 finishers will be a critical factor in deciding the Charles Schwab Cup points race.
