2007 Marks Event's 25th Anniversary, Baltimore Country Club Set to Host

Baltimore, MD - The player field for the 2007 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship has begun to take shape, with several marquee players having already committed to compete in the event, which is set for October 1-7 at Baltimore Country Club.

Defending Champion Bobby Wadkins, three former Masters Champions in Bernhard Langer, Tom Watson and Craig Stadler and former PGA Championship winner Jeff Sluman will all be in Baltimore this October to play in the Champions Tour's final major of the season. 

"We are excited to come out of the gate with this stellar group of players who, five months out, have already made a commitment to this event," said Steve Schoenfeld, Executive Director of the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship.  "Four of these five players have won majors on the PGA TOUR and two have already been elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame.  Bernhard Langer and Jeff Sluman are names that local golf fans have not had the opportunity to see play right here in Baltimore.  They are excited to play the East Course at Baltimore Country Club, and once the player field is fully assembled, it will arguably be the best of the year on the Champions Tour."

The defending champion of the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship, Bobby Wadkins had his best year as a professional in 2006. The Richmond, VA, native captured two titles, finished with $1,193,173 in earnings (ranked ninth on the Champions Tour) and surpassed the seven-figure mark in single-season earnings for the first time since 2002. Wadkins' win last year at the Senior Players Championship earned him a berth in last month's PGA TOUR's PLAYERS Championship.  Earlier this year he won the Champions Tour's ACE Group Classic in Naples, FL.

Bernard Langer, a member of the Champions Tour's "Class of 2007," turns 50 on August 27.  He is a two-time Masters Champion (1985 and 1993), has won 61 tournaments worldwide and is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.  In 1985 he claimed seven tournaments on five different continents and was ranked No. 1 in the world.  Born in Anhausen, Germany, Langer has played on 10 European Ryder Cup Teams and captained the European Team in 2004 to a record 18 1/2-9 1/2 victory over the Americans in the 35th Ryder Cup matches at Oakland Hills CC in Bloomfield, MI.

World Golf Hall of Fame member Tom Watson ranks 10th on the PGA TOUR's all-time victory list with 39 official titles.  He owns eight major championship titles, five from the British Open (1975, 1977, 1980, 1982-83), two from the Masters Tournament (1977 and 1981) and the 1982 U.S. Open.   He was the PGA TOUR's leading money winner five times, and in 2005, Watson captured the Senior British Open, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and the season-long Charles Schwab Cup title.  In the 2002 U.S. Senior Open at Caves Valley, he played his last 10 holes in five under par to catch Don Pooley, eventually losing to Pooley on the fifth playoff hole.  He owns eight Champions Tour titles.

Craig Stadler has won eight times since joining the Champions Tour in 2003, including five victories in 2004, when he was voted Champions Tour Player of the Year.  He led the Champions Tour in scoring average that year (69.30) and joined Lee Trevino and Tom Watson as the only players to earn money titles on the Champions Tour and PGA TOUR.  He too is a Masters Champion, having won at Augusta National in 1982.

Like Langer, another member of the Champions Tour's "Class of 2007" who has committed to play several events as soon as he becomes eligible is Jeff Sluman (Sluman turns 50 September 11).   His first PGA TOUR win was a major, the 1988 PGA Championship at Oak Tree GC.  The winner of six PGA TOUR events, in 2006 Sluman cracked the $1 million mark in earnings for the sixth straight season and eighth time in the last nine years.  He ranks 22nd in career PGA TOUR earnings with $17,937,471.

About the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship
