Constellation Senior Players Championship

BALTIMORE, MD- Monday, August 10, 2009 - 2008 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship winner D.A. Weibring was in Baltimore today to meet with local media and announced that he will be back to his defend his title when the Champions Tour's final major of the year returns to Baltimore Country Club on September 28-October 4. 

Down four strokes with 14 holes to play, Weibring rallied to take the lead midway through the final round and used two par saves late to hold on for a one-stroke victory over former University of Maryland golf coach, Fred Funk.  His win at the Five Farms course was his fifth Champions Tour title, matching the number of PGA TOUR victories already on his resume.

The 56-year-old Texan ended the 2008 season strong with a total of six top-10 finishes, including T5 at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Weibring is currently ranked 63rd on the money list through 10 starts this season, logging a pair of T15 best finishes at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai and Dick's Sporting Goods Open. By virtue of his Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship win, Weibring earned a berth into this year's PLAYERS Championship held in May at TPC Sawgrass, but was forced to withdraw due to back problems. 

The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship is one of five major championships on the Champions Tour for eligible professionals age 50 and over and features a field of 78 players competing for a share of the $2.7 million purse.  Since the inception of both the Senior Players Championship and the former Constellation Energy Classic, nearly $9 million has been raised for charities in the communities in which the tournaments were staged.  The Constellation Energy Senior Player Championship is part of "The Road to the Charles Schwab Cup", a season-long points race that kicks off in Hawaii with 25 official events and culminates in Northern California at Sonoma Golf Club October 26 - November 1, with $2.1 million in payouts awarded to the season's top five leading performers.
