CALGARY — World Golf Hall of Fame member Nick Price, along with fellow South African David Frost and American Jeff Sluman will provide more firepower to an already stellar field that will hit the fairways of Calgary’s Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club from Aug. 28 – Sept. 1.
One of the most personable players in the game of golf, Price will flex his muscles in what is shaping up to be one of the deepest fields of the year on the PGA TOUR’s Champions Tour calendar. The three-time major winner (1994, 1991 PGA Championship, and 1994 The Open Championship), and International Presidents Cup Team captain this year won 18 times on the PGA TOUR, and was twice the TOUR’s Player of the Year and money leader. A two-time winner of the Canadian Open, Price was always a fan favorite in Canada during his peak years in the mid-1990s.
"This will be my first trip to Calgary and I’m looking forward to visiting the city for the first time and playing in our newest event,” said Price who has won four times on the Champions Tour, and has battled through injury for much of this season. “I’ve competed in Canada many times in my career and have always been impressed with the large, enthusiastic crowds that have come out in support of those events. I know the fans in the Calgary area will support the event in great numbers as well."
Adding to the international flavour of the inaugural Champions Tour stop in Calgary will the appearance by Frost. A winner of 10 events on the PGA TOUR, and five times on the Champions Tour including one major victory at this year’s Regions Tradition, Frost is highly regarded around the world where he has regularly played on both the top American and European Tours. Combining his passion for life on and off the course, Frost has a 300-acre vineyard with his brother in the heart of wine-producing region of South Africa. Every David Frost wine is dedicated to a golfing great including: Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.
Joining the two South Africans on the flight to Calgary will be one of the most consistent players throughout his career on the PGA TOUR, Jeff Sluman. A winner of six PGA TOUR events, including the 1988 PGA Championship, Sluman has won five times on the Champions Tour. He has also served as an assistant captain three times on the U.S. Presidents Cup Teams.
