SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Officials with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf have announced a special pro-am opportunity designed to help support a cause close to the heart of one of Savannah's best known golfers.
The Charity Pro-Am, to be held Monday, April 16, at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa, will take place in partnership with Gene Sauers, a three-time PGA TOUR winner and Georgia Golf Hall of Fame member who will make his debut on the Champions Tour in August. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the research of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS), a rare and potentially fatal skin disorder that Sauers battled in 2009. After enduring skin grafts and several long hospitalizations for the disorder, Sauers received a second lease on life and is eager to help others suffering from SJS.
"I am very happy to partner with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf and the Champions Tour - which I look forward to joining later this year - as we work together to produce a first class event and to also create funds for a very needy cause," said Sauers.
The Charity Pro-Am package includes the opportunity to play with a Champions Tour player on Monday, April 16, as well as a VIP ticket and gift package. Each contestant will receive two River Club hospitality tickets, allowing admission to the tournament grounds Friday-Sunday and daily access to the River Club, a climate-controlled hospitality pavilion that offers a variety of food for purchase, premium cash bar, large screen televisions and views of the 1st and 10th tee. In addition to the tickets, participants will receive an exclusive gift package, as well as lunch, dinner and on-course refreshments the day they play. A limited number of spots are still available, for more information please call (912) 236-1396.
The Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf's features a total of three team competitions during the week, starting with the Demaret Division on Monday and Tuesday, followed by the Raphael Division on Friday and Saturday. Official competition begins with the Legends Division, a 54-hole better-ball competition, on Friday, April 20. David Eger and Mark McNulty are defending champions.
