Bernhard Langer, the defending champion at this week's Toshiba Classic, shares his favorite restaurants, foods and tournament day snacks.
Q. What food always reminds you of home??
Langer: There's nothing like German bread so it's probably anytime I see the dark German bread.
Q. What's your favorite restaurant in the United States, and what do you order there??
Langer: There used to be a great German restaurant in Los Angeles but they closed down a few years ago. I go to some of the chain restaurants. I like the Macaroni Grill and the Cheesecake Factory.
Q. Where was your most memorable meal??
Langer: It was probably after I won my second Masters Tournament. At the Champions Dinner the following year, I served a traditional Thanksgiving menu with plenty of turkey and dressing. That meal stands out in particular.
Q. What's the best snack??
Q. What do you normally eat before a round on a "competition day"??
Langer: I like to start off with fresh fruit and then have scrambled eggs with tomatoes and ham in it. I'll add some bread as well.
Q. What would we find in your refrigerator today??
Langer: There's six of us at my house and there's a big range of ages. You'll find the typical things -- buttermilk, carrot juice, apple juice, turkey meat, etc. I also like tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.
Q. What's the most unusual thing you've ever eaten??
Langer: The meat on the cheeks of a fishhead. I was the guest of honor at a dinner during tournament week in Japan. There were 15 people there and they brought this platter and set it in front of me. The platter was filled up with nothing but the fishhead. It was pretty gross to look at but my interpreter told me the meat on the cheeks is a delicacy. Once I got over looking at it, the meat was actually very tasty.
Q. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why??
Langer: Jesus Christ.
Q. Does your family have a favorite food tradition??
Langer: Not really. We celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. I love the turkey and dressing and cranberry sauce.
