WGHOF launches poll on Facebook to name exhibit

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum announced today the launch of a Facebook poll giving golf fans around the world the opportunity to name the Hall's latest exhibition featuring memorable moments from golf's current events. Fans will be allowed to vote for their favorite name via the Hall's Facebook page between now and Jan. 27.

Fans will be able to log onto the Hall of Fame's Facebook page and participate in the poll. They can choose from three names: "History in the Making," "Fore the Records," and "This Just In." The winning name will be announced in February. To vote, fans can visit www.Facebook.com/GolfHallofFame and become a fan of the page.

The special exhibition will open in March and concentrate on golf's most recent events, with memorabilia from professional tournaments, major championships and team events like the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup and Presidents Cup. It will also highlight record-breaking performances and other historic moments.

"This is an exciting new initiative for the World Golf Hall of Fame," said Hall of Fame Chief Operating Officer Jack Peter. "We believe this promotion and exhibition will be a fun and unique way for fans to interact with the Museum. They will be able to watch something special happen on the course, then visit the Hall of Fame and see part of that history."

The Hall of Fame will work closely with its supporting organizations, including the world's major tours and championships, to regularly bring new pieces into the display.

When the exhibit opens, fans will be able to see a variety of recent items, including memorabilia from Hall of Fame member Annika Sorenstam and her victorious Team Europe in the 2011 Solheim Cup at Killeen Castle in Ireland. It will also contain items from the 2011 Presidents Cup at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia.

In recent years, the Hall of Fame has begun to feature more current items. The enthusiastic response to memorabilia from the 59s recorded by Paul Goydos and Stuart Appleby in 2010, the 6-iron used by Jonathan Byrd to win the 2010 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and items from amateur Patrick Cantlay's 60 in the 2011 Travelers Championship inspired a more permanent exhibit.
