NORTON, Mass. (Aug. 26, 2011) -- Officials from the Deutsche Bank Championship, TPC Boston and the PGA TOUR are making preparations for the arrival of Hurricane Irene, and do not expect the Championship's competition rounds or other scheduled events that are open to the public to be affected.
The Deutsche Bank Championship is contested Friday, Sept. 2-Monday, Sept. 5 (Labor Day) at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass. -- between Boston and Providence, R.I. Championship Week also includes pro-am competitions on Tuesday, Aug. 30 and Thursday, Sept. 1.
The Championship's operations staff has made advance preparations to address severe weather. Small temporary structures have been taken down until the storm passes, and all large temporary structures have been heavily reinforced. The mesh covering surrounding all TV towers has been removed to allow wind to blow through them. Signage throughout the golf course has been taken down temporarily.
"While the weather has provided us with some challenges, we're confident that we have taken all the right steps to be fully prepared," said Eric Baldwin, the Championship Director of the Deutsche Bank Championship. "Forecasts are now showing the worst of the weather to hit us Sunday afternoon, so we expect that we'll be able to recover in time and not have any of our scheduled events that are open to the public affected. Safety is always our biggest concern. We will re-assess the situation Monday morning and take every step to ensure that our spectators are safe and have a terrific experience at the Championship."
The latest information regarding the Deutsche Bank Championship will be posted as it becomes available on the Championship's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/DeutscheBankChampionship and the Championship's Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/DBChampionship.
