The first round of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship will resume at 8:30 a.m. Friday after weather caused a long delay. Round 2 will begin as originally scheduled. The Golf Channel will televise live action beginning at 2 p.m. ET.

First-round play was suspended Thursday due to darkness. The first round will resume at 8:30 a.m. ET Friday, while the second round will begin as scheduled at 11:20 a.m.

Rory Sabbatini, who won last week's Honda Classic, was one of those who will get to sleep in on Friday morning. Knowing the horn was about to sound, he ran to No. 9 -- his final hole of the day -- and teed off so he and his playing partners could finish if they wanted. He high-fived some volunteers after he hit his tee shot on the par 3, then ended up two-putting for par and a 74.

Groups we're watching:
Players
No. 1 Ian Poulter, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson
This group has just two holes left to play in the opening round -- Johnson is 2 under and Poulter 1 over. Before play began Watson withdrew due to illness.
No. 10 Graeme McDowell, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson
Mickelson is 2 under, while McDowell and Woods are both 1 under. Tiger started slow but bounced back with a couple of birdies. They're through 15 holes.
No. 1 Rickie Fowler, Ryo Ishikawa, Jhonattan Vegas
Ishikawa was two back of the lead when play was stopped. Meanwhile, Fowler is 2 under and Vegas 1 under through 12.
No. 1 Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald
All three are in the top 10 -- Kaymer leads the trio at 5 under through 10 -- and there's a lot of golf still to go.

STORYLINES FOR FRIDAY:
• Can Hunter Mahan finish off his hot start in the opening round?
• Adam Scott's switch to a long putter has been paid off so far.
• The world's three top-ranked players are all in contention at Doral.
