ATLANTA -- In accordance with the PGA TOUR's new mobile device policy, announced in February, fans are now allowed to bring their cell phones to the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola when the finale for the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup comes to East Lake Golf Club on Sept. 21-25. As part of the new policy, the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola, will also put several new social media initiatives in place for this year's event, including the Seagram's Social Lounge, a one-of-a-kind hospitality area open to all fans 21 or older.
With the revised policy, spectators are allowed to carry mobile devices on the golf course with the volume setting on silent. Phone calls may be made or received in designated areas only, strategically located throughout the golf course. Fans will be allowed to receive and send messages and check data on the golf course away from play. No video recording is permitted at any time during the week, and no photography will be permitted during official competition rounds.
"Mobile devices have become an important part of everyday life, and we understand it's difficult to ask our fans to 'unplug' during their time on the golf course at the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola," said Executive Director Todd Rhinehart. "Allowing cell phones on the golf course has been a tremendous fan enhancement at PGA TOUR events since the policy was implemented in March, and we expect the new policy to be especially successful and popular here in Atlanta, one of the most active social media communities in the United States. We anticipate our fans will be respectful of the rules and regulations associated with the policy, but also very active while at the tournament."
As part of the new policy, fans will be able to interact with the event through many social media on-site initiatives, such as:
The Seagram's Social Lounge. Visit the Seagram's Social Lounge located in the short range area of East Lake Golf Club. Fans can enjoy a complimentary, refreshing Seagram's Ginger Ale and free internet access. Both forms of Twitter and Facebook will be used throughout the tournament to announce ways for the fans to interact with social media in order to win prizes, discounts, etc. The Seagram's Social Lounge is open to the public (21 or older to enter) and provides an air-conditioned, comfortable setting where you can relax and unwind throughout the week.
Daily specials and promotions will be held during tournament week including:
- Giveaways
- Ticket upgrades
- Pictures with the trophy
