Player notes
Here are some of the players you'll see on the Golf Channel's coverage of Round 2:
DAVID MATHIS
Mathis opening round 65 equals his lowest on the PGA TOUR in 45 career starts. He previously shot 65 on three different occasions in 2009 in the fourth round of the Bob Hope Classic, the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the third round of the Wyndham Championship.
JOHN MERRICK
Merricks 66 Thursday equaled his lowest score at TPC Southwind in 10 previous rounds. He previously fired a 66 in the third round in 2009. In three previous starts at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Merrick missed the cut in 2007 and finished T73 and T53 in 2009 and 2010, respectively.
ROBERT KARLSSON
Robert Karlsson extended his streak of consecutive rounds in the 60s at TPC Southwind to five with an opening round 66 Thursday. Karlsson is now a combined 13-under in Memphis after carding rounds of 67-66-68-69 in his debut at the FedEx St.Jude Classic in 2010. Karlsson was tied for the lead after 72 holes in 2010, but fell to Lee Westwood (birdie) on the fourth playoff hole.
