One of the themes for the 2011 PGA TOUR season is the competition involving the Establishment vs. the New Breed. How will the established players -- those with significant TOUR experience and long-standing championship pedigree -- fare against the young, hungry up-and-comers who are looking to nudge their way into the TOUR's elite?

Each week, PGATOUR.COM will select two players -- one from the New Breed and one for the Establishment -- and analyze their chances heading into the tournament. We'll then track which player has the better score for his team, and keep a running team tally throughout the year.

This week for THE PLAYERS Championship, we've selected a pair of Masters champions in Tiger Woods and Charl Schwartzel. Woods has won four Green Jackets while Schwartzel, who is in his rookie season on the PGA TOUR, picked up his first last month.

ESTABLISHMENT
AGE: 35
YEARS ON TOUR: Woods is in his 15th full season on the PGA TOUR. He has won 71 times, most recently at the 2009 BMW Championship, and has 14 major titles.
OVERVIEW: Woods is something of a question mark this week. He didn't play in last week's Wells Fargo Championship, normally one of this favorite stops, due to a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee and a strained left Achilles tendon. He suffered the injury while hitting an awkward shot during the third round of the Masters and has not played since that tie for fourth. In fact, he has been wearing a boot to protect against further injury. The tie for fourth at Augusta National was his second top-10 of the season in his last three starts. Woods, who is tweaking his swing under the guidance of Sean Foley, has only played five times this year. Woods ranks 81st in the FedExCup, a season-long competition he has won twice previously.
HISTORY IN THIS EVENT: This is the 10-year anniversary of Woods' only victory at THE PLAYERS Championship. He only has one top-10 since, a tie for eighth in 2009, and a total of three in 13 starts at TPC Sawgrass. Woods had to withdraw due to a neck injury last year.
OUTLOOK THIS WEEK: Given the fact that he was unable to play last week and was a last-minute commitment for THE PLAYERS, you have to wonder how Woods' left leg is doing. He has only shot in the 60s six times in 31 rounds since that victory in 2001.

NEW BREED
AGE: 26
YEARS ON TOUR: This is Schwartzel's first year on the PGA TOUR. He has been a member of the European Tour for seven years, as well and has seven titles.
OVERVIEW: This is Schwartzel's first year on the PGA TOUR - and no matter what else happens, it's been one to remember after his Masters victory. The South African put on a furious Sunday charge, making birdie on the final four holes, to join countrymen Gary Player and Trevor Immelman with a Green Jacket in his closet. The rest of Schwartzel's 2011 season on TOUR has been solid, if not spectacular. He hasn't missed a cut in six starts and has finished in the top-25 four times. He ranks 15th in the FedExCup race, as well. Schwartzel also picked up his sixth international victory earlier this year when he successfully defended his title at the Joberg Open. He has finished 11th or better in his other three starts on the European Tour this year.
HISTORY IN THIS EVENT: Schwartzel has played in THE PLAYERS Championship two times. He missed the cut a year ago and tied for 58th in his 2007 debut when he shot 3 over.
OUTLOOK THIS WEEK: Schwartzel hasn't played on either TOUR since he won the Masters, so it's hard to know exactly where his game is. He was certainly spot-on at Augusta National and he ranks fifth on the PGA TOUR in scoring average.
