Claxton continues to have the lead at q-schoolDec. 3, 2011 | By Staff and wire reports | PGATOUR.com LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Will Claxton shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday on PGA West's Nicklaus Tournament Course to take a two-stroke lead after the fourth round of the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament. Claxton had a 15-under 273 total. He opened with a 64 on the Nicklaus course. The top 25 in the six-round event will earn 2012 PGA TOUR cards. Marco Dawson was second after a 67 on the Nicklaus course. Harris English and Seung-yul Noh were tied for third at 11 under. English shot a 70, and Noh had a 72 -- both on the Nicklaus course. David Duval was tied for 89th after a 73, also on the Nicklaus course. Bobby Gates, who graduated from the Nationwide Tour a year ago and finished last season at No. 126 on the PGA TOUR money list, is currently alone in fifth at 10 under. Five members of the Nationwide Tour's 2011 graduating class are competing in this week's event to better their position on the PGA TOUR's 2012 pecking order. Billy Hurley III tops the group at 8 under. Adam Hadwin, who had a pair of top 10s in five 2011 TOUR starts, is just two shots below the cut line at 3 under. He's one shot ahead of Sam Saunders, grandson of legendary golfer Arnold Palmer. Major champions David Duval (+2) and Rich Beem (+3) find themselves well outside of the top 25 with 36 holes to play. The leaders will play on the Stadium Course in round five and on the Nicklaus Tournament Course in round six on Monday with the lower half of the field playing the opposite courses. |
