John Cook used the victory last year at the Administaff Small Business Classic to spark a late-season charge.
Cook won his third career Champions Tour title at the Woodlands and followed it up by claiming No. 4 two weeks later at the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
Cook shot a final round 4-under 68 to outlast Jay Haas and Bob Tway by two shots at The Woodlands Country Club's Tournament Course. Cook trailed 36-hole leader Dan Forsman by two shots entering the final round. A 17th hole birdie gave Cook the lead for the first time. Haas, on a late charge himself, fell short in his bid for a third straight victory.
This week's Power Rankings for the Champions Tour's Administaff Small Business Classic:
| Power Rankings: Administaff Small Business Classic |
Bernhard LANGER |
The quest now for Langer, two-time winner of this event in '07 and '08, is to continue adding layers of icing on a very handsome cake. There are stats upon stats to support his No. 1 power ranking. |
John COOK |
Defending champion is looking for a strong showing in Houston to spark another season-defining rally. Three runner-ups this year and 10 top 10s have him fifth on the money list. 10th in greens in regulation. |
Mark O'MEARA |
Coming off his first Champions Tour major title at the Constellation Energy Senior Players, he's positioned for a solid finish. Runner-up to Langer here in 07, O'Mearas fine putting always has him in with a chance. |
Nick PRICE |
Langer's sensational season has overshadowed a lot of fine individual performances this season and what Price has achieved belongs in that category. He's got seven top-8 finishes in last eight starts. |
Fred COUPLES |
The fifth spot in the Power Rankings has been a tough pick this year given the depth of the Champions Tour, but it goes to Couples this week because he's back in Houston where he'll have plenty of support. |
