NAPLES, Fla. -- Strong, gusty winds forced postponement of the first-round of The ACE Group Classic after winds made portions of the course unplayable. Only nine of the 81 players in the field completed their rounds.
Champions Tour officials suspended play at 12:39 p.m. when a number of holes were deemed unplayable due to the winds, which gusted at times near 40 mph. Players were allowed to finish the hole they were playing during the suspension before they were called off the course at 1 p.m. Play was then called for the day at 1:45 p.m.
The first round will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday. Following completion of the first round, the tournament will utilize a two-tee start for the second round from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
Of those nine finishers, Ronnie Black posted the low round of the day, a 3-under 69. Fred Couples and Tommy Armour III were also 3 under through 10 and 11 holes, respectively.
