JOHN BUSH: Jason Day joins us in the interview room here at the Deutsche Bank Championship. I know how competitive you are and this one stings a little bit. Comment on the day as a whole.
JASON DAY: It was obviously a tough day today. There weren't too many low scores out there. I was just thinking that if I could possibly shoot 4 , 3 under, that might have it, and I didn't expect Charley to come and shoot 9 under. That's an unbelievable score. He obviously won the tournament. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't make it a little bit closer. Congratulations to Charley; that's a tremendous effort on a Sunday, especially the second Playoff event. It means so, so much to us to do well in the Playoffs. Overall I'm disappointed with how I played today, but I tied second, I can't be too angry. I'm just looking forward to next week, and hopefully I can do a little bit better next week.
Q. Was there something that wasn't just quite clicking for you today?
JASON DAY: You know, it's I don't know, I hit the ball great today. I felt like I was hitting the ball not as great as the first three days, but it wasn't that bad. I just missed a couple of crucial putts coming down the last few holes. I thought if I could birdie the 15th if I could come home with four birdies, I could have a chance of getting into a playoff, and then when I missed the birdie on 15, holed a good birdie on 16, I needed birdie eagle, and hit a really close one on 17 and missed that. I hit driver, 7 iron into the last hole and hit it way over the back and made bogey, unfortunately. But just really nothing too different. I'm only 22, and I'm just still trying to learn how to finish it off. So I guess next week is another week.
Q. Does it take the sting away a little bit when someone throws a 62 at you?
JASON DAY: You know, it does a little bit, but it disappoints me that I couldn't make it closer and I couldn't play my way to win. Obviously he's played really well out there today because it was gusty, the greens were firm and they were getting really quick, especially if you're coming downhill. You really can't do anything about it. You can only go out there and try your hardest and give it 100 percent, and at the end of the day if you're walking back with a trophy, then that's great. But if someone comes and shoots a score like that, you really can't do anything about it.
Q. You had three putts or two putts come back at you and lipped out another one. I guess it could have gone either way. But were you happy with the way you were rolling the ball on the greens?
JASON DAY: Yeah, looking back on it, I had a lot of good, crucial putts go in for me. It would have been nice to have the last one go in, but you can't have them all. No, I was very happy with how I rolled the putter this week. It was nice.
Q. Just the way you rolled through the first three rounds, were you kind of waiting for that breakout birdie that was going to break that 17 under logjam for you?
JASON DAY: Yeah, I got off to just a good, solid steady start, and I just I birdied the second, which was good, got me to 18, then I quickly came back with a bogey. My goal today was to minimize my mistakes, give myself as much opportunities as possible, and I thought that if I could shoot 4 under, 21 under would have it. You just really can't do anything about Charley. He obviously played just unbelievable.
Q. Were you aware of what he was doing out there? Were you looking at the leaderboard?
JASON DAY: Yeah, I was looking at the leaderboard. I needed to do something, so I needed to know where he was. You know, being in the last group yielded so many rewards out there today. It was unbelievable. It was actually really good to hear, and it's good for golf in general to hear a lot of fans cheering for their favorite players, and hopefully next time it comes around they'll be cheering for me. That would be nice.
Q. Were you feeling the added pressure playing with the lead, or would you rather play from behind?
JASON DAY: Either way would be fine. I know that I have to go out and hit the shots that need to be hit. You know, it really if it's close, it really comes down to those last few holes. 16, 17 and 18, if it was close, you really needed to go around and golf well around those last few holes.
JOHN BUSH: Jason, thanks for coming by. Play well in Chicago.
