NORTON, MASS. -- The team led by retired Boston Red Sox slugger Sam Horn and 2010 PGA TOUR winner Derek Lamely captured winning honors in Tuesday's seventh-annual Red Sox Legends & Friends Pro-Am at TPC Boston.
Horn, Lamely and amateurs Bob Murphy, Jim Dobens, Paul Sullivan combined to shoot a 16-under-par 55 and secure a one-shot victory in the low-net, best-ball tournament that annually kicks off Deutsche Bank Championship Week.
Tuesday's Pro-Am featured 110 players, with each of the 22 fivesomes headlined by a PGA TOUR pro and a sporting dignitary. New England sporting celebrities included Red Sox legends Jim Rice, Dennis Eckersley, Dwight Evans, Carlton Fisk, Fred Lynn, Luis Tiant, Bob Montgomery, Rick Miller, Jim Lonborg, Bob Stanley, Rico Petrocelli and Horn, Boston Bruins players Shawn Thornton, Ray Bourque (retired), and Bob Sweeney (retired), 1980 USA Hockey Olympic gold medalist Mike Eruzione, retired New England Patriots standouts andre Tippett and Joe Andruzzi, and broadcasting personalities Sean McDonough and Tom Caron.
In the seven-year history of the Red Sox Legends & Friends Pro-Am, the Deutsche Bank Championship has generated $700,000 to the Red Sox Foundation. Additionally, the Deutsche Bank Championship donated $3,000 today to the NHL's Boston Bruins, who, in turn, passed that $3,000 donation along to the First Tee of Massachusetts.
Limited remaining tickets for the Deutsche Bank Championship can be purchased by calling 877-TIX-4DBC, visiting the Championship's newly remodeled website at www.dbchampionship.com, or at the Deutsche Bank Championship gate. Daily grounds-only tickets are $30 for Wednesday's practice rounds and Thursday's Championship Pro-Am, and $60 for competition rounds Friday-Monday.
