INSTRUCTOR'S CORNER: Todd Jones, head instructor at TOUR Academy TPC Sawgrass, offers insight to playing Quail Hollow.
The Quail Hollow Club showed its teeth in the second round even as Tiger Woods struggled to score. On a day where pars were valuable, posting an under-par score moved players well up the leaderboard.

Billy Mayfair assumed the lead after another 68. He holds a one0shot lead over two-time major champion Angel Cabrera. Cabrera followed up on a solid first round of 70 with a 5-under par 67. The day's low score belonged to J.P. Hayes. On his way to shooting 64, Hayes racked up nine birdies and only one bogey.
With thunderstorms threatening Saturday's play, look for scoring to continue to be driven by outstanding iron play. Outstanding iron play not only means hitting greens, but hitting the correct spots on the greens. To do this, the player not only needs to be striking the ball well but also making the right decisions when selecting a club. Once again, this is where their homework pays off. Working together as a team, the player and the caddie chart yardages for each shot to support proper club selection.
This means that they know their yardages. On other terms, they know exactly the carry distance of each club in the bag. This is something that is often overlooked by the player at home trying to improve. Learn from the pros and do your homework, learn your carry yardages, and sharpen your iron play to shoot lower scores. -- Todd Jones
