INSTRUCTOR'S CORNER: Todd Jones, head instructor at TOUR Academy TPC Sawgrass, offers insight to playing Quail Hollow.
The first round of the Quail Hollow Championship saw ideal conditions for scoring. However, the course was not defenseless, as the greens grew firmer and faster as the day progressed. Bo Van Pelt sits atop the leaderboard after firing a bogey-free round of 65, which is a rare feat at Quail Hollow Club.

Bo achieved this with a combination of solid ball-striking and good putting. He hit 78 percent of the greens and regulation and took advantage of his opportunities, averaging 1.57 putts on the greens which were hit.
Going low for PGA TOUR Players, such as Bo, means that you are comfortable being under par. Once they get 1 under, they want to get 2 under, and so on. There is a great game that I have my players do leading up to an event.
I call it the "go low" game. This is a game that will also help you get comfortable breaking those invisible scoring barriers. To play this game, you need to go to the front tees and play a two ball scramble with the goal being to birdie every hole. This will have you focused on being aggressive and into scoring. Give this game a try and have fun "going low."
