Mickelson commits to Quail Hollow Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Phil Mickelson, who earned his third Green Jacket last week at the Masters Tournament and moved to No. 2 in the world, committed Friday to play in the Quail Hollow Championship.

Mickelson's commitment means three of the top-four ranked players in the world are scheduled to compete. No. 1 Tiger Woods announced Thursday that he would play while No. 4 Lee Westwood, who was runner-up to Mickelson at Augusta National, had previously committed.

The tournament will be held April 29-May 2 at the Quail Hollow Club.

Mickelson will be making his sixth appearance in the Quail Hollow Championship. In 2009, he tied for fifth. Mickelson is tied with Vijay Singh for the most top-10 finishes in tournament history with four. His best finish in Charlotte was a tie for third in 2007.

This also marks the eighth consecutive year the current Masters champion has competed in the Quail Hollow Championship.

"Phil has been a very positive ambassador of our tournament for many years now and we are excited to have him back in Charlotte," said Executive Director Kym Hougham.

Daily tickets for Friday and Saturday are sold out but other packages are still available. Ticket prices remain the same and include parking and shuttle service to and from the golf course. A weekly book is $140; Practice Packs (Monday through Wednesday) are $25, Thursday (first round) is $40 and Sunday (final round) is $50.

Champions for Education, a non-profit host organization, manages and operates the Quail Hollow Championship. As a result of the tournament, Champions for Education's impact on charity has been awareness and over $11 million the past seven years.
