Expert Picks: Transitions Championship
Mar. 18, 2010
The PGA TOUR heads to Florida's Gulf coast for the Transitions Championship this week. Here's how the PGATOUR.COM experts size up the top contenders.

EXPERT PICKS How it works: Our experts from PGATOUR.COM select the player they think will win this week's event. By using a draft process, no two picks can be the same. The player who wins the previous week picks last the following week. SLEEPER PICKS Of the players who didn't make the cut for our top picks, which have the best chance as sleepers? STEVE STRICKER. A year ago, Stricker failed to finish in the top 10 in the first two WGC events, then tied for fourth at Innisbrook. After two forgettable WGC finishes in his last two starts, maybe a similar pattern will develop.

Brian Wacker |
PADRAIG HARRINGTON. The Irishman is finally playing the kind of golf he was the second half of last year. He comes to Tampa off a T3 in Miami, where he had a ton of birdies and putted well.
| If Wacker had the top pick ... Harrington |
Nick Zaccardi |
NICK WATNEY. Since I can't take Lee Westwood for the third straight week, I'll go with one of the most consistent players on TOUR. Watney has missed just one cut in 2010, finishing T27 or higher in six weekends.
| If Zaccardi had the top pick ... Stricker |
John Swantek |
DUSTIN JOHNSON. No. 4 in the FedExCup standings, Johnson didn't fair well at the World Golf Championships, but started the season off strong. He'll get his game back on track this week. |
| If Swantek had the top pick ... Stricker |
Helen Ross |
STEWART CINK. He knows he can play this course, even if the outcome two years ago wasn't what Cink had hoped. He's already got two top-10s this year and comes to Innisbrook with momentum after a 65 on Sunday at Doral. |
| If Ross had the top pick ... Stricker |
Anne Szeker |
RETIEF GOOSEN. Prior to a not-so-stellar performance at the World Golf Championships-CA Championship, the Transitions defending champion had three top-10s in four starts.
| If Szeker had the top pick ... Goosen |
Ryan Smithson |
JIM FURYK. Remember him? He shot a 65 in the first round here last year before his putter decided to take the next three days off. He's one of the few who can shoot 10 under on this beast.
| If Smithson had the top pick ... Stricker |
Lauren Deason |
BRANDT SNEDEKER. He's been my go-to guy after opening 2010 with a T10 and a T2. The Vandy grad, who placed T8 at Innisbrook in 2008, is second on TOUR in putting average and hasn't missed a cut all year.
| If Deason had the top pick ... Stricker |
