Els continues to lead FedExCup standings

ATLANTA -- The PGA TOUR Regular Season continues to march along with two major championships in the books and 29 of 37 events complete. THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, Sept. 21-26 at historic East Lake Golf Club, will again serve as the season finale with the top 30 players in the FedExCup standings earning spots in the field.

FedExCup points leader Ernie Els has held the top spot in the season-long standings for 16 consecutive weeks since his first victory of the season at the World Golf Championships-CA Championship.

With a solo third at the U.S. Open, Els has posted six top-10s this season, tied for the most on the PGA TOUR in 2010, and he remains one of just four players with two victories on the year, along with Jim Furyk, Justin Rose and Steve Stricker.

Last year it took 1,532 FedExCup points to qualify for THE TOUR Championship. With 1,751 accumulated through his first 16 events, Els would appear poised to make his 15th career appearance at THE TOUR Championship.

Though he's never won the season-ending event, Els has enjoyed quite a bit of success at THE TOUR Championship with seven top 10s.

The top-30 players in FedExCup points after the BMW Championship qualify for THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, the finale of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. FedExCup points are reset prior to THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, ensuring a real shootout as all 30 players in the field will have a mathematical chance of winning the FedExCup with a victory at the event.

THE TOUR Championship is annually contested at Atlanta's renowned East Lake Golf Club, the formative home of the legendary Bobby Jones.
