MORE INTERVIEWS: Viking Classic transcript archive

Q. That was good playing, 66. Just comment on the round for us.

MICHAEL ALLEN: Gosh, I don't know. It was kind of a day I just I did a lot of nice things, you know, driving the ball nice and straight. Gave myself a lot of opportunities. I didn't really make any long putts. I made a decent putt, about 25 feet, on the 6 hole, I guess. Other than that, most of my birdies were kind of short range. You know, it was a nice day, though. I played well and just didn't really make too many mistakes, putted nicely, hit the ball nicely, kind of, you know, a nice day.

Q. I didn't have time to look this up, but how many events have you signed on in this Tour?

MICHAEL ALLEN: I think this is my 14th.

Q. And are you playing how many Champions?

MICHAEL ALLEN: I know I'm going to play the Charles Schwab Cup coming up, and then my only question is next week. I may play out there. I may play I don't know. I know the rest of the year I'm going to play San Jose, Las Vegas, and Disney.

Q. Solid season out there, though. Runner up at Jeld Wen, and just comment on your play out there.

MICHAEL ALLEN: You know, it's been nice. I have played well. I finished like second at Jeld Wen, and then I hung out with Fuzzy and J.J., finished 72nd. So it has its ups and downs. The play out there has been fun. I mean, hopefully, it helps me prepare to try to win out here, which has always been my goal to win here.

I guess out there you get a chance to win a lot more often. I can play well out here. Sometimes I do well, sometimes I'm not in contention. Out there, I usually play well, and I'm in contention somewhat. So it's kind of nice. It's nice for someone that's really trying to learn how to win a tournament or two.

Q. That was my question. Some people would ask why. Why not just stick with one? Why still going back and forth?

MICHAEL ALLEN: Because really I have options. I mean, for me, I haven't been I'm exempt out here, but I wasn't exempt on that tour. So I came out this year, and I really tried to play this tour full time and really get my card up, and I got off to a great start on the West Coast. For me, I had a very good start there.

But once I hit the middle of the season, my favorite part of the season, TPC, Quail Hollow, all those nice tournaments, AT&T. I didn't play well, missed a lot of cuts. So I went over to the Senior Tour and tried to make sure I got my card there because I didn't want to be 62 years old out four spotting again, you know.

Q. Do you still have the game to win out here? Three shots out right now.

MICHAEL ALLEN: I would believe. I mean, I've never won out here, but I've always believed I do. That's one of the main reasons I play. I'd love to win out here. I play to make a living. I love doing what I'm doing out here. This is a great challenge. This could be a fun weekend, I hope. Looking forward to it.

Q. You played this tournament a bunch, sometimes?

MICHAEL ALLEN: Most of the time.

Q. Enough to know what this course is about? What do you expect if this wind picks up?

MICHAEL ALLEN: Yeah. I mean, I like it this time year. I stopped coming in the summer. It's so hot and humid. This time of year, I like to play. A lot of good friends around here. It's been a good time.
