Round 2 Notebook: Shriners Hospitals for Children Open

Weather: Mostly cloudy skies with morning showers. Temperatures reached 69 degrees. Winds S 6-12 mph.

• The 36-hole cut came at 4-under 138 with 75 players advancing to the weekend.

Jonathan Byrd's second-round 63 moved him to 13-under 129 for the tournament. He holds a one shot lead over Ryuji Imada. Alex Prugh, Martin Laird, John Senden, George McNeill and Nicholas Thompson are two shots back at 11-under.

• Byrd missed his last two cuts in Las Vegas in 2008 and 2009. He is making his seventh start at the JTSHO, with his best finish coming in 2002 (T13).

• This is Byrd's ninth career second-round lead/co-lead and first since the 2009 Memorial Tournament (T13). Of the previous eight second-round leads/co-leads, he was able to convert his first into victory at the 2004 B.C. Open.

• Byrd's 63 matched his career best round, which he has done three other times. Byrd's 129 total after 36-holes tops his previous best by three shots.

• Ryuji Imada shot a 9-under 62 in the second-round to miss Davis Love III's TPC Summerlin course record by one shot (61 in 2001).

• Imada shot a career best 62 in his 173rd start on the PGA TOUR. Imada's previous best round was a 64, which he recorded three times, most recently at the 2006 Booz Allen Classic.

• Imada has missed 10 of his last 16 cuts on TOUR, including the first two Fall Series events at the Viking Classic and the McGladrey Classic.

• Imada has one top-25 finish (T15/2008) in five previous starts at the JTSHO.

• Imada has three top-10s this season. Before last week's T6 finish at the Frys.com Open, Imada's last top-10 came at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March. Prior to last week, Imada's last top-25 finish was also at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

• Imada's 36-hole total of 130 is two shots better than his previous best on TOUR. Imada had a 132 after the first two rounds last week at the Frys.com Open and also had a 132 after 36-holes at the 2009 Bob Hope Classic.

• Rookie Alex Prugh (-11/T3) finished T2 last week at the Frys.com Open after missing the cut in his previous two starts at The Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship.

• Prugh is looking for his fifth top-10 of the season. Fellow rookie Rory McIlroy has five top-10s this season, while Rickie Fowler leads all rookies with six top-10s.

• Prugh matched his best round on TOUR with a 64 (Bob Hope Classic and Wyndham Championship).

• Defending champion Martin Laird matched his career best round on TOUR with a 62 in the second-round. Laird's other 62 came at the 2009 Frys.com Open (T13).

• Last year, Laird was T3 with a 12-under 130 after the second-round. This year as the defending champion, Laird is T3 at 11-under 131 after the second-round.

• Nicholas Thompson missed his last three cuts coming into this week.

• Thompson's only top-10 this season was T7 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Thompson is 151st on the money list. He has finished inside the top-125 on the money list the last two years.

• Thompson is making his fifth start at the JTSHO: T75/2006, 71/2008, Cut/2009.

• George McNeill has shot in the 60s in all 14 career rounds at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. McNeill's stroke average in 14 career rounds at the JTSHO is 66.43.

• McNeill is making his fourth start at the JTSHO. He has not finished outside the top-15: 2007-1st; 2008-T15, 2009-T2.

John Daly (6-under/T47) made his 14th cut in 20 starts this season. He is looking for his first top-10 finish since he lost in a playoff at the 2005 WGC-American Express Championship.

• Since 2007, Daly has one top-25 finish on TOUR (T24-2010 Puerto Rico Open).

Marc Turnesa, who won the JTSHO in 2008, is making his first start on TOUR since February at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

• Turnesa (-7/T35) makes his first cut since the 2009 Children's Miracle Network Classic. Turnesa missed all six of his cuts in January and February before missing time with a back injury.

Rich Beem (MC) made his first start since the Shell Houston Open in April. Beem is recovering from a bulging disk between C6 and C7, which required surgery. Beem has 10 starts this season with five missed cuts and a WD.

Troy Merritt posted a birdie on No. 16 at TPC Summerlin to reclaim a share of first place with Rickie Fowler in the $1 million Kodak Challenge competition. Merritt's Kodak Challenge birdie was his fourth birdie in a row Friday.

David Duval's 64 is his best round since the 2006 season when he had a 64 at the Bob Hope Classic and a 63 at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Rocco Mediate (1-under) missed the cut a week after winning the Frys.com Open.

Stuart Appleby, who won in Vegas in 2003, missed the cut in his first event since the John Deere Classic in July.

Warren Schutte, who earned a spot in the JTSHO through the Monday Qualifier, is competing in his first TOUR event since the 2003 U.S. Open.

• The par-4 3rd hole is playing the toughest so far this week, yielding a 4.414 average. The par-5 16th hole is the easiest with a 4.484 average.

Greg Owen (illness) withdrew after the first-round. Stephen Ames (back) withdrew during the second-round. Johnson Wagner was disqualified after the second-round for signing an incorrect scorecard.
