LEMONT, Ill. -- Seventy players are in the field this week at the BMW Championship. Just 30 will move on to the final Playoffs event, THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, in two weeks.
And of those 30 survivors, just the top five will control their own destiny at East Lake. If any of the top five players wins at East Lake, he is guaranteed to win the FedExCup. Anybody outside the top five must hope for help.
Matt Kuchar is the only player guaranteed of making the top five after this week, although it's likely that Charley Hoffman will have a spot too, and Steve Stricker merely needs to finish ahead of five other players in this week's field.
Thirteen players are guaranteed top 30 spots, with another six likely headed to East Lake.
