Expert Picks: BMW Championship

Sep. 8, 2010

The PGA TOUR travels to Cog Hill in Lemont, Ill. this week for the BMW Championship. Here's how the PGATOUR.COM experts sized up the top contenders:

EXPERT PICKS
How it works: Our experts from PGATOUR.COM select the player they think will win this week's event. By using a draft process, no two picks can be the same. The player who wins the previous week picks last the following week.

TIGER WOODS. Won this event in 2007 and 2009. Last year, he won by eight strokes over Jim Furyk, which was aided by his 62 in the third round. Tiger is starting to get his form back -- look for him to win this week at Cog Hill.

Mike
McAllister
STEVE STRICKER. He was bogey-free through 54 holes last week at TPC Boston. Then, I jinxed him when I asked him about it. Sorry about that, Steve. The least I can do is pick you this week (even though everyone below will want him).
If McAllister had the top pick ... Stricker
Lauren
Deason
JIM FURYK. He had a strong showing at this course last year -- even if he was eight shots behind Tiger. After his alarm clock mixup two weeks ago, he is under the gun to grab a spot in the Playoffs finale at East Lake.
If Deason had the top pick ... Woods
Ryan
Smithson
LUKE DONALD. This is a home game for 'ol Luke, and you know he will be right there after 54 holes. I just need him to actually close the deal this week. No one would argue he's a top-five player in the world right now. Right?
If Smithson had the top pick ... Stricker
Helen
Ross
MATT KUCHAR. Yes, he cooled off a bit over the weekend. But Matt Kuchar did nothing to make me think that he won't be a factor again this week at Cog Hill -- where he also happened to win the U.S. Amateur.
If Ross had the top pick ... Kuchar
Brian
Wacker
RORY MCILROY. McIlroy hasn't done much in the Playoffs -- a T56 and a T37 -- but that's exactly why I like his chances at the BMW Championship. He's admittedly had a long season, but he's still one of the best players in the world and should finish top 10 here.
If Wacker had the top pick ... Stricker
Anne
Szeker
ADAM SCOTT. Have to go with someone who has Playoffs momentum -- and one of the guys with the most is Adam Scott. Three top-10s in his last four starts. This could be his week, especially if he gets the putter going.
If Szeker had the top pick ... Stricker
John
Swantek
GEOFF OGILVY. Really liked Adam Scott this week, but will settle for next best available Aussie. Sorry, Jason Day, but Ogilvy's 65-66 closing rounds at TPC Boston make him the man from Down Under to watch this week.
If Swantek had the top pick ... Scott
