Here's how the top five in points going into The Barclays fared on Saturday:
1. ERNIE ELS Opened with double-bogey en route to 2-over 73; tied for 66th
2. STEVE STRICKER Three straight birdies en route to 3-under 68; tied for 12th
3. JIM FURYK Ineligible for tournament after missing pro-am tee time Wednesday
4. PHIL MICKELSON Missed the cut on Friday
5. JUSTIN ROSE Shot himself into tournament with 6-under 65; tied for fifth
The top five in the FedExCup points standings is important, since the top five going into THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola control their own fate in regards to winning the FedExCup.
Bubble watch
Bubble Tournament Comment
100 Deutsche Bank Championship Seven players from outside the top 100 are projected to move inside the bubble: Kevin Streelman, Ryuji Imada, J.P. Hayes, Tiger Woods, Troy Matteson, Robert Garrigus and Andres Romero. The bubble boy going into this week, No. 100 Jeff Maggert, withdrew on Friday with a shoulder injury and is all but officially eliminated from the Playoffs.
70 BMW Championship In addition to Streelman, Imada and Hayes, seven other players from outside the top 70 are projected to move inside the bubble: Martin Laird, John Senden, Angel Cabrera, Josh Teater, Stephen Ames, Charley Hoffman and Pat Perez. The bubble boy going into this week, No. 70 Justin Leonard, shot his third consecutive even-par 71 and is tied for 54th.
30 THE TOUR Championship In addition to Laird, two other players from outside the top 30 are projected to move inside the bubble: Adam Scott and Vaughn Taylor. The bubble boy going into this week, No. 30 Stuart Appleby, shot an even-par 71 and is tied for 46th.
