INSTRUCTOR'S CORNER: Ed Brill, head instructor at Tour Academy Hilton Head, analyzes the playing conditions this week:
I'm looking at the numbers again, and a lot of the same stats are showing who is getting it done. The putting leader so far is Jason Bohn, enough said. Leading greens in regulation are David Toms and Shaun Micheel, and both are in the top 10. Lee Janzen is leading scrambling and was looking good until a stumble to start Round 3.
Let's talk iron play. First off, as with any shot in golf, you should be thinking of a solid strike. If you strike it solid, you will not get into trouble too often. Focus on this from the putter to the driver.

How can we learn to strike the ball more efficiently? Slow motion, or at least 20 to 50 percent effort swings, will give yourself so much more of a chance of really focusing on form, and remember form is efficiency.
Practice away from the ball. As soon as we put the ball in front of ourselves, our whole focus goes to what the ball is doing, but if you're fairly new to the game or struggling or working on something specific, get away from the ball and enlist the help of a pro or at least get in front of a mirror and try some different feels or positions in the swing.
Lastly, go practice your short game. Shorter, slower swings will reveal a lot in a hurry. You better be able to strike it well with the shorter clubs, or it's not going to get easier when you go for the 5 iron.
