INSTRUCTOR'S CORNER: Ed Brill, head instructor at Tour Academy Hilton Head, analyzes the playing conditions this week:
Putting is such a key area that I feel is often overlooked. At the TOUR Academies, we like to spend considerable time working on putting. It is such a big percentage of the game, approximately 40 percent -- so you need to work on it and become really proficient with it. I have written about it recently, and it deserves another mention.

Set-up is key, as it is with all of golf. One crucial set-up point we stress at the TOUR Academies is having your forearms lined up with the shaft. Look in a mirror from the down-the-line view and see if one forearm is higher than the other.
A full swing grip (in the fingers) can cause the lead arm to be higher than the trail arm. A trail-hand grip, with the lifeline of the trail hand on the lead hand thumb, can cause the trail arm to be too high.
Sole the putter fairly flush to the ground (toe up slightly) and have someone hold a shaft across your forearms to see if they are level. You're in better shape now to start holing some putts.
Work on your set-up and your speed control, and the line of the putt will start to show itself to you.
