LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Northern Trust Open announced that Notre Dame Academy was the winner of the first bonus pool for the tournament's TICKETS Fore CHARITY program. The academy received a $10,000 award from Northern Trust for generating the most ticket sales for the February tournament. From August 31 to November 19, Notre Dame Academy was the designated charity for more than $18,000 in tickets under the program.
The TICKETS Fore CHARITY program offers nonprofit organizations a chance to raise funds in their name by promoting ticket sales to the historic Northern Trust Open, to be held February 15-20 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. One-hundred percent of net proceeds from tickets purchased through the program will go to charity: 80 percent to the charity promoting the tickets and 20 percent to the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce Charity Foundation, a community service organization.
Northern Trust Corporation gave participating charities an additional incentive by offering up to $50,000 in matching donations for the organization(s) that raise the most funds over three scheduled check points during the six months prior to the tournament. The next opportunity for the charities to receive a matching donation from Northern Trust is January 6, 2011; the final bonus pool ends on Feb. 9, 2011.
"Congratulations to Notre Dame Academy," said Northern Trust Open Executive Director Jerry West. "They have embraced our TICKETS Fore CHARITY program, which is gaining momentum in its second year, and is setting the pace for the 61 other organizations involved in the program. Of course, a huge thank you to Northern Trust for their bonus pool contribution and for continuing to show how the Northern Trust Open is committed to making a positive impact throughout Los Angeles."
In another effort to raise awareness and funds, top-performing charities will have an opportunity to win an additional donation from Northern Trust if the Northern Trust Open reaches 10,000 fans on Facebook by January 10, 2011. If that goal is achieved, Northern Trust will distribute $10,000 amongst the five eligible charities, and Northern Trust Open Facebook fans will get to vote on which charity should receive the biggest donation. Based on the voting results, $5,000 will go to the charity with the most results, $2,000 to second place, and $1,000 to the remaining three charities. Voting will start December 6, 2010. The charities that are eligible are Notre Dame Academy; American Golf with The First Tee of Pasadena; Los Angeles Opportunities Industrialization Centers, Los Angeles; PS: I Love You Foundation; and Riviera Foundation.
