SONY OPEN AT HAWAII: Transcript archive

JOHN BUSH: Welcome, Nathan Green into the interview room after a 5 under par 65. Nathan, three birdies to finish up the front 9 and an eagle to finish up your round. Just a nice overall round for you, just get some comments if we can.

NATHAN GREEN: Yes, I played all right. A bad start with a bogey but from there I played pretty steady golf, and I played really good through the turn and managed to make a couple of decent saves on 14 or 15. I can't even remember now. There was a couple of decent save par putts. Then I bogeyed 16 and then eagled the last, so that was good.

JOHN BUSH: Let's go through the bogey on No. 1. Take us through that.

NATHAN GREEN: Bogey on No. 1, hit it down the middle and a firm green, I tried to smash an 8 iron and just came up short in the bunker and didn't get up and down.

3, good 3 wood off the tee, wedge to about ten feet and made it.

7, a good 6 iron, tough pin, just try to hit it about 15 feet left of th pin and managed to make it sort of a downhill putt with probably two or three feet of break. That is when I sort of started to putt pretty well.

8. Good drive, then sort of a decent second sort of pin high probably 25 feet away and made a good putt.

9, good drive, then pretty poor second, hit a great bunker shot to about three feet.

14, I hit a really good drive and hit a pretty decent wedge in there, just trying to keep it below the hole and made probably a 15 footer there.

16, hit it in the left rough off the tee where I have been every day. I had no shot, I just tried to hit a low shot out there and didn't quite get out and thin onto about 45 feet and missed it.

18, good drive, 6 iron to about probably 15 feet and made it.

Q. There was a 64 out there but nobody else is doing anything at all I'm curious as to what the conditions are like?

NATHAN GREEN: A little breezy. Yesterday it was pretty constant sort of getting breeze. Today you are sort of getting some gusts. It's sort of tough sometimes to look at where it's coming from.

I'm sure the greens are really good still. You are sort of still getting a fair few looks at birdies out there. I think someone will come with a 5, 6, 7 under today at some stage.

The course is in that good of shape. It's one of those courses that you can sort of getting it going on a little bit.

Q. Streaky kind of stuff too?

NATHAN GREEN: It is. My birdies sort of come in runs. Ryan Palmer finished this time yesterday, had a lot of birdies at the end. It just seems like one of those courses if you get on a roll, it's tough to hit it close, but it's not overly tough hitting it to 15 or 20 feet and if you get on a run with a putter you can make a lot. For Bermuda they are just really true. You can sort of hit up on them little bit.

Q. With does it take tomorrow?

NATHAN GREEN: Hopefully they don't go too low. I would like to see guys get to 12 or 13. I will need another pretty low one tomorrow. But you never know, hopefully the wind gets up this afternoon and they don't get too far away.

Q. Is it almost better to get a few groups back?

NATHAN GREEN: Once you are in the third, 15 and up, or 20, you are probably not going to get that much of an advantage anyway. I don't know, a day like today, when you get out there fairly early, you have that in mind that if you can post a good score early, I think it's always a little bit tougher in the afternoons to score. The greens, they're going to grow a little bit I suppose. And the conditions are always a little bit tougher in the afternoon.

So you get out early, if you can post a score, you can do some catching up.
