San Jose may be the center of Silicon Valley, but it is also surrounded by some of the greatest golf courses in the world: San Francisco Golf Club and the Olympic Club to the north, and Pasatiempo, Pebble Beach and Cypress Point to the south. But if you're only in town for a short while, you don't have to travel far to find some great golf.

LINKS Magazine has partnered with PGATOUR.COM to provide information and features on the best golf courses in the country. For a special LINKS Magazine subscription offer for PGATOUR.COM readers, please click here.

WHERE TO PLAY

CordeValle: Site of the Frys.com Open, this Robert Trent Jones Jr. gem is part of a 1,000-acre luxury resort set in a valley with broad hills, streams and mature oaks.

Cinnabar Hills Golf Club: Taking its name from the red ore once mined in the area, the facility's 27 holes, designed by John Harbottle, are routed through hills and canyons, and feature firm, fast conditions.

Coyote Creek Golf Club: The two Jack Nicklaus courses are his only public designs in the Bay Area. The Tournament course is set in the foothills, while the Valley rolls over gentle meadows.

WHERE TO STAY

Dolce Hayes Mansion Hotel: Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this former private estate has been transformed into a luxurious hotel surrounded by lush gardens.

Hotel Valencia Santana Row: This sophisticated hotel is the only one in the city's upscale shopping and entertainment complex, making it an ideal base for exploring many San Jose's attractions.

Sainte Claire: Just steps from museums and restaurants in the heart of downtown, this European-style property with hand-painted ceilings in its soaring lobby has been a favorite of Hollywood royalty and the high-tech crowd since 1926.

WHERE TO EAT

LB Steak: This stylish steakhouse in Santana Row has a French twist (the initials stand for Left Bank), with innovative dishes of naturally raised beef, line-caught fish and local organic produce, as well as a sumptuous dessert cart.

Plumed Horse: Located just southwest of town in the charming village of Saratoga, this hip restaurant features and eclectic menu and an 1,800-bottle glass wine cellar.

Sino: Whether you go for dim sum or a celebratory dinner, this modern Chinese restaurant is an epicurean's delight, serving up dishes like Kung Pao chicken lollipops that offer inventive variations of traditional Cantonese cuisine.
