Who needs LeBron James? The basketball superstar grew up in this Midwest city and played just up the road in Cleveland before leaving for South Florida. To fill the void, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and the biggest golfers in the world are coming to town to play in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club this week.

WHERE TO PLAY

Boulder Creek Golf Club: This rolling, wooded layout features 100-foot elevation changes and some of the best greens in the area. The signature hole is the island-green 17th.

Bunker Hill Golf Course: This upscale daily-fee course is appropriately named. There are plenty of sand hazards and elevation changes, as well as other obstacles like water hazards and tall stands of trees.

J.E. Good Park Golf Course: Although "The Park" is a muni, the design and conditioning are on a par with a private club, especially on the challenging contoured greens.

WHAT TO DO

Inn at Brandywine Falls: Set in the 33,000-acre Cuyahoga Valley National Park and adjacent to a 67-foot waterfall, this historic B&B has six distinctly decorated rooms, including two rustic suites in a renovated barn.

Quaker Square Inn: Located downtown, this unique hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has round rooms that take their shape from converted grain silos that once belonged to the Quaker Oats Company.

Sheraton Suites Hotel Akron/Cuyahoga Falls: This all-suite hotel includes multi-level accommodations with balconies overlooking the rushing waters of the river.

WHERE TO EAT

Crave: This hip, lively establishment in the heart of the historic district has invigorated the city's dining scene with daring dishes like the char-grilled rum and vanilla glazed halibut.

Diamond Grille: A popular player hangout, this Akron institution serves the best steaks in town. Avoid the common first-timers mistake of not bringing enough cash to this establishment that does not take credit cards.

Ken Stewart's Grille: At this restaurant that is perfect for a special occasion, the extensive menu features items ranging from steak to Midwest seafood like walleye.
