HOOVER, Ala. -- Second-round play at the Champions Tour's 2009 Regions Charity Classic was suspended for the day by a late afternoon thunderstorm. The round was originally delayed from 9:27 a.m until 1:00 p.m. (CT) by a thunderstorm that yielded just over a half-inch of rain.
When the final horn sounded at 5:10 p.m., all 76 professionals were still out on the golf course, having gone off both the 1st and 10th tees. The second round is now scheduled to resume with players in position at 7:30 on Sunday morning. The final round is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m., with the last group teeing off at noon.
When play was called for the day, Keith Fergus (thru 9 holes) and Gene Jones (thru 14 holes) were tied at 10-under with Tom McKnight (thru 10 holes) just one stroke back.
Today marks the first suspension of play this year for a Champions Tour event and the first time this event has been delayed since Sunday, 2006.
