Norman to team with Fergus at Liberty Mutual Legends

SAVANNAH, Ga. --Tournament officials on Thursday announced that Greg Norman and Keith Fergus have declared they will team together in the Legends Division when the 32nd annual Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf returns to the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa on April 20-26.

Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2001, Norman owns 91 worldwide victories including 20 PGA TOUR events. Australia's Great White Shark is a two-time British Open champion who spent 331 weeks as the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world during the 1990s. The fan favorite will make his first appearance at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf and seventh career start on the Champions Tour. The stop in Savannah caps off a run of recent appearances by Norman, including the Cap Cana Championship (T36), the Shell Houston Open (T70) and highlighted by his return to Augusta National for this week's Masters.

"I've heard a lot over the years about the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf and look forward to partnering with Keith Fergus," said Norman. "It should be an enjoyable week."

Keith Fergus made waves in the Caribbean two weeks ago by capping a four-stroke final round comeback with an eagle hole-out from 95 yards on the 17th to earn his second Champions Tour title at the Cap Cana Championship in the Dominican Republic. Prior to joining the Champions Tour in 2004, Fergus was a fixture on the PGA TOUR during the 1980s and 90s where he won three events. The Texas native also competed on the Nationwide Tour where he collected another two titles.

Fergus finished T11 at last year's Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf with then-partner Wayne Levi. The two were scheduled to compete together again in Savannah when Levi was forced to undergo double-bypass heart surgery last week. While sidelined indefinitely, Levi is expected to make a full recovery.

"I hate to give up my partner Wayne, but Greg will fill in nicely," said Fergus. "He's playing well and I feel like I am too, so I think we'll make a great team and have a lot of fun."

The duo joins an already stellar field which includes pairings such as Bernhard Langer-Tom Lehman, Jay Haas-Curtis Strange, Eduardo Romero-Denis Watson, brothers Lanny Wadkins-Bobby Wadkins and Loren Roberts-Mark Wiebe. Also returning will be defending champions Andy North and Tom Watson, who sailed to their fourth win together with a wire-to-wire victory over runner-ups Jeff Sluman and Craig Stadler.

The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf's unique format features a total of three team competitions during the week, starting with the Demaret Division for ages 70+ on Monday-Tuesday (unofficial money) followed by the Raphael Division for ages 50+, on Friday and Saturday (unofficial money). Official competition begins with the first round of the Legends Division on Friday, April 24. The 54-hole, two-man better-ball format will once again be counted as an official money/official win for both team members. Previously held as an individual competition, North and Watson became the first team to win under the Legend Division's new team and official win format last year.

Tickets are on sale now with daily ticket prices starting at $20 (The price of single day tickets increases to $25 at the gate). Weeklong Emerald Club passes are $75 ($65 for age 60+). The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf is part of the Champions Tour's "The Road to the Charles Schwab Cup", a season-long points race that kicks off in Hawaii with 25 official events and culminates in Northern California at Sonoma Golf Club October 26 - November 1, with $2.1 million in payouts awarded to the season's top five leading performers.
