Tim Clark
A victory today over No. 1 seed Tiger Woods was certainly not expected from Tim Clark, judging by his record in previous Accenture Match Play Championships. Clark entered the 2009 event with a 1-5 record. His previous five defeats came to players ranked 26, 37, 39, 1 (Tiger Woods in 2007) and 31.

Clark is the highest-ranked player in PGA TOUR career earnings without a PGA TOUR win: ranked 66th with $12,073,366.

Tiger Woods
With his loss on Thursday, Tiger Woods' career Accenture Match Play Championship record is now 32-7. Of the seven opponents Woods has lost to, Tim Clark is the second-lowest ranked at No. 32. Woods lost to No. 64-ranked Peter O'Malley in 2002.

Camilo Villegas
After getting ousted by K.J. Choi in the first round last year, Camilo Villegas has shown his match-play mettle. He defeated Rod Pampling in the first round, 7 and 6, and today took down Miguel A. Jimenez, 5 and 4 -- meaning Villegas has played only 26 holes so far this week.

Phil Mickelson
Tomorrow marks Phil Mickelson's first appearance in the third round since 2006. He is hoping to advance to the quarterfinals for only the second time in 10 starts at the Accenture Match Play Championship (2004, lost in QF to Davis Love III, 1-down). Mickelson, winner of last week's Northern Trust Open, is looking to become the first player to win the Accenture Match Play Championship the week after winning a PGA TOUR event.

Stewart Cink
Stewart Cink advanced to the third round for the fifth time in 10 starts and the second year in a row, but it took extra holes both Wednesday and Thursday to get there. Cink defeated Richard Sterne in round one after 19 holes, and then took 23 holes to defeat Lee Westwood in round two. With 42 holes played, Cink sets a record for most holes played in the first two rounds (the record for the most holes played on consecutive days is 43 - set by Chad Campbell in 2005 when he defeated Miguel A. Jimenez after 24 holes in round two and lost to Retief Goosen after 19 holes in round three).

Geoff Ogilvy
Australia's Geoff Ogilvy continues his stellar play at the Accenture Match Play Championship. Now with a 12-2 record, Ogilvy has the highest winning percentage (85.7 percent) of any player in the event history with more than 10 wins on his resume. Second is Tiger Woods (32-7, 82.05 percent), followed by David Toms (23-8, 74.2 percent).

Ogilvy went extra holes in round one, two, three and in the quarterfinals en route to his victory in 2006.

Ernie Els
With a 3 and 2 win over Steve Stricker today, Ernie Els advances to the third round of the Accenture Match Play Championship for the first (and only other) time since 2001. Els has been ousted in the first round in his previous four starts here (2008, 2007, 2006, 2003).

English players
Six of the seven English players in the field made it past the first round, and five were also successful in round two: Oliver Wilson, Paul Casey, Ross Fisher, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter.

The largest margin of victory on Thursday was 6 and 5, recorded by Ross Fisher over Pat Perez. Fellow Englishman Paul Casey defeated Mathew Goggin 6 and 4.

Presidents Cup
The second-round matches featured two potential match-ups for the upcoming Presidents Cup. The Internationals won both:
• South Africa's Ernie Els defeated USA's Steve Stricker, 3 and 2
• South Africa's Tim Clark defeated USA's Tiger Woods, 4 and 2
