Round 2: THE TOUR Championship

The first groups are ready to tee off in Round 2 at THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. Here's how it sets up:

1:45 p.m. ET, Hole No. 1		Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington The pair that spent so many late-summer rounds in the same group are paired together again for Round 2.
1:55 p.m. ET, Hole No. 1		Stewart Cink, Sean O'Hair O'Hair's early lead isn't much of a shocker. When he's putting well, he makes a lot of birdies, and his exceptional iron play minimizes bogeys.
12:55 p.m. ET, Hole No. 1		Zach Johnson, Scott Verplank Johnson still controls his own destiny in the FedExCup, and he's in decent shape after opening with a 70.

The golf course was in wonderful shape for the first round due to a great job done by the grounds staff at East Lake.

The course from tee to green was soft due to the rains, but because of the Sub-Air system, the greens were firm and caused difficulty for the players' approach shots.

After the players got through the first nine, the grounds crew was actually watering the greens. They will be fast and firm again for the second round, and I would expect the players to adjust. Look for some well-played rounds on Friday.

I actually expected a low round in Round 1, as from my point of view, there were some pretty easy hole locations. Unfortunately, the firmness of the greens prevented players from getting their shots close to the holes.

Stat of the day

Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk have now played in all 45 rounds of the PGA TOUR Playoffs, dating to the competition's inaugural start in 2007.
