Y.E. YANG: 21st in FedExCup points (300 after reset)
South Korea's Yang shot a final-round, 2-under 68 to win The Honda Classic by one stroke over John Rollins for his first PGA TOUR victory earlier this year. But it was his thrilling rally past Tiger Woods to win the PGA Championship that vaulted Yang into the limelight. The win over Woods -- who was a perfect 14-0 when atop the leaderboard going into the final round of a major -- made Yang the first Asian-born male player to capture a major title. The win also secured Yang a spot on the International Presidents Cup Team, moving him from No. 36 in the standings before the PGA Championship to No. 9 in the last week to automatically qualify. Yang has two additional top-10 finishes on the season: a fifth-place finish at the Buick Open and a tie for eighth at the RBC Canadian Open. Not only is this Yang's first appearance in THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola, it's also the first time he has qualified for the PGA TOUR Playoffs.
Quick analysis
The Tiger-slayer at the PGA Championship, Yang has two victories in 2009. He's likely a little far back to overtake the world No. 1 as far as the FedExCup is concerned, but he coud make an impact in his TOUR Championship debut just the same. He'll be playing for Greg Norman at The Presidents Cup in two weeks, too. -- Helen Ross
